We just received this invitation from the San Francisco Maritime National Historic Park:

Hello from SF Maritime-

Address: 900 Beach Street, at the foot of Polk Street. Enter anytime after 5:30pm

Your last name and the total in your party will go onto a reservation list which will be held by a volunteer in the museum lobby. Free admission. Free parking while spaces are available, at lower Van Ness Ave, west of the museum.

On this special night of singing, we will honor the memory of Alice Watts, who passed away from cancer in February, 2024. This is an annual February theme. Alice was a treasured member of the chantey sing, park, and SF Bay sailing community. She began volunteering at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park in 1983, and in 1986 founded the hot beverage service at the monthly chantey sings, heating and serving hot chocolate, apple cider, tea, and coffee, and organized a volunteer crew to assist. Alice became Mate aboard the park’s restored 1891 scow schooner ALMA, and was an instructor in the youth Age of Sail overnight and day programs aboard the THAYER and BALCLUTHA on Hyde Street Pier. Alice is sorely missed by her family, friends, and the park.

Many thanks to her longtime volunteer Chris Candell who, with his volunteer crew of Cindy, Martin, Heather and Carol, for keeping the beverage service going.

Let’s ring out in song in Alice’s memory, and if you have any remembrances of her to share at the sing, feel free to.
Fair winds,
-Peter
