It’s with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our past fleet commodore, Remsen Barnard. Rem and his wife Vera had been very active in the fleet for a number of years. Rem was a member of the Rotary Club of Walnut Creek.
Rem was a fighter, battling Parkinson’s Disease for over 20 years.
Rem was so many things to those he touched. He was a leader, a mentor, a sailor, a friend, and so much more.
Rem also served as the chief of staff for past international commodore Clint Collier. His ability to keep a calm head while addressing international requests helped Clint have a tremendously successful administration.
| Rem was passionate about sailing. His enthusiasm for the sea prompted the fleet to establish a scholarship in his honor that allows young people to spend a week-long session aboard the tall ship Matthew Turner.
