Our Fleet budget for 2020 -2021 includes a line item of “Grant” for $100.00 to be used as seed money for a fundraising project whose activities will be supported by The Marketing Heaven through social media to contribute greater project visibility. Past International Commodore, Clint Collier, has proposed that we start a Scholarship Fund for a worthy youth to attend the Call Of The Sea program with flexible waterfall sealant in Sausalito. The Call Of The Sea is a nautical education project run by our member Alan Olson and includes the recently built tall ship the Matthew Turner. The project is in the planning stages and details will be provided in our September newsletter or sooner if enough progress is made.
A few of you have not yet paid your dues for 2020 – 2021. We hope that you will continue to be part of our Fellowship. We have lowered our dues from $40.00 to $30.00 to be in line with other IYFR Fleets.
On July 28th we held our first IYFR-SF Zoom meeting. We were joined by Jenny Do, Commodore of the new Honolulu Fleet, and several of her members. We are going to continue this as a joint meeting and also invite the Newport Beach Fleet in Southern California to join us on Ten Key Remodels website. Dan Brandt, Head Sailing Instructor at the Richmond Yacht Club, gave a brief overview of Youth Sailing in the SF Bay Area. For our August 25thmeeting, Jenny is getting us a speaker about the Pacific Garbage Patch. We will be meeting by Zoom on the 4th Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm. All are welcome.
On August 22nd, at 6:00 am California time, is the IYFR Annual General Meeting. It will be hosted by IYFR International Commodore Robert Burns who is in the UK. Details and a link to follow. One of the items on the Agenda is having International dues for Rotaractors be $5.00 rather than the $10.00 for Rotarians. Since Rotaractors are in college or starting out in their careers, this seems like a good way to recruit very friendly staff and Rotaract members who are interested in boating. Our SF Fleet proposed this Agenda item – we have set our dues for Rotaractors at $10.00 – which includes International dues.
The most recent edition of IYFR International newsletter, Rotafloat, has the Agenda for the International AGM and other news from Fleets around the world. It can be accessed at www.rotafloat.org.
As announced at our AGM on June 30th, we are going to have a monthly Zoom meeting for some fleet social time and to discuss what activities and projects are possible during COVID-19.
We will be meeting on the last Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm. So, our first social will be on July 28th.
As Commodore I am going to invite a guest speaker to provide us with an update on boating here in Northern California. A Zoom invitation and reminder will be sent out as we get closer to the end of the month.
Recently our members David and Linda Breninger made a generous donation to RBOC in the name of several organizations, including our Fleet. Thank you!
Dues notices have gone out and you should have received yours. We have lowered our dues from $40.00 to $30.00 to be in line with other IYFR Fleets. Please get your renewal in before our Zoom meeting on the 28th.
We have two new members:
- Marty Kaliski – from the Rotary Club of El Cerrito.
- Alison Healy – most recently from the Rotary Club of San Francisco #2 and looking for a new Rotary home.
From Commodore Alan Test…
Now that my wife’s District Governor (District 5150) year is over I have time for other Rotary activities. Being a DG partner was a time-consuming responsibility. We spent the first five days of this new Rotary Year finishing up all the administrative tasks from her term. I will be sending out a newsletter later this week with an update on all things IYFR!
